Sculpture

Starting in 2022, sculpture became integrated in my craft.

“Francis the Clown Cat, a laughingstock.” - Francis the Clown Cat is a result of me exhibiting my emotions through sculpture. Twisting, squirming under pressure from the gaze of others. Uncomfortable, coping with humor.

“broken yet standing” - I went in with the ambition of creating a larger piece than what I was comfortable with to push my limits and see what I could come up with. Learning from the many mistakes I made while executing my idea, I was able to work around the problems I created and used them to my advantage by incorporating new elements that were not planned in the original sketch.

“DMF” - dysmorphic media feline finds himself catching up with the weekly Caturday news where he has experienced increased exposure of hyper-lean/muscular bodied cats. Because of this, he has developed dysmorphia, unrealistic expectations, and low confidence. Many cats have healthy lifestyles, eating right, exercising regularly. But because their bodies aren’t programmed the same as the buff cats, attempting to achieve the same physique leads to unhealthy mentalities and a down spiral of physical wellbeing. Seeing this media pushed onto their young kittens, there is a growing concern. Kittens growing up this way can influence how they judge their self worth and may push them to create superficial ideals that may not be obtainable in a healthy, safe way.
