she feeds off the visions of others

Size: 58" × 42.5” - 2023 - Mixed media on unstretched canvas

For this project, I drew inspiration from seven artworks at the Art Institute of Chicago. Using unstretched canvas, I started with Shiraga Kazuo's "Golden Wings Brushing the Clouds Incarnated from Earthly Wide Star," creating chaotic paintings by swinging around barefoot with paint on my feet. I incorporated specific attributes I found appealing, such as the nose from Jim Lutes' "Lecher" and the eye from Odilon Redon's "Guardian Spirit of the Waters," experimenting with charcoal and subtractive sponge work. Another piece by Redon, "Andromeda," influenced the positioning of a figure, while Katsushika Hokusai's "Kohada Koheiji" inspired the teeth's placement. I also used matches, inspired by Francis Picabia's work, and vibrant colors from the Hairy Who's artwork.

Materials used: house, oil, and acrylic paint, pastel ground, charcoal, fiber paste, modeling paste, crackle medium, glass beads, screen printing screen scraps, dried flowers, matches, and blank film strips from an abandoned movie theater.
